What I Learned About SEO

Image
This week I learned about something called SEO which stands for search engine optimization. SEO is   the process of improving a website's visibility in organic search results on search engines .  You might be thinking "how is this any different from search ads?" Search ads and SEO are similar, but I learned some key differences. Some good things about SEO are that it is free and it puts your ads to the top of the page. Some downsides of SEO are that it is hard to compete against because so many people use it, and it takes a long time to get set up. One common thing between SEO and search ads is that they are both keyword based.  Another thing I learned this week was that Google and other search engines use a database called the index to make sure that when someone searches something, a relevant and timely website comes up first. So how do you make sure your website is the one that comes up first? One thing you could work on is building your information architecture...

Landing Page Optimization

Image
I lear ned a lot about something called landing page optimization this week. Google Ads Help says it best when they said, " Your landing pages play a big part in turning clicks into customers. When someone clicks your ad, they expect to land on a page that's relevant to what they saw in your ad. If they don't find what they expect to immediately, they're more likely to leave" (Google Ads Help). So how can you make your landing page better? Here are some of the techniques I learned this week: First, you should make sure that your ads and your keywords match your landing page. Double check that they do so you don't deceive the person visiting your website. Also, make sure that your ad takes the person clicking on your website directly to that landing page that correlates with the ad, so the person doesn't get lost.  Another technique I learned is to make your website mobile friendly. Many people use their phones to search things so if they click your ad on...

Common Problems With Keywords and Potential Actions to Take

Image
Since I have been running my Google Ads campaign for a few weeks now, I have noticed some problems with my keywords.  One problem I had was that I wasn't getting much traffic on my website. After digging into the problem a little bit, I realized that I didn't have enough keywords in my ad group. This was a pretty simple fix, I just added more keywords that related to my business. Because of this problem, I learned that it is important to have many keywords because it allows for more avenues people can take to visit your website which is the goal.  Another problem that I had was that some of my keywords were too broad. This led to a low click through rate. This was a simple fix as well, I just changed my keywords a little bit to make them more focused and related to my business.  This week I learned that there are multiple problems you could run into relating to keywords in Google Ads. Common keyword problems include being irrelevant, too broad, too specific, too co...

Cool Things About Google Analytics

Image
This week I learned about a completely new tool called Google Analytics. I had a lot of fun setting this up and learning about how I can use it to help my web business.  Google Analytics is a really cool tool that allows you as a web business owner to see where in the world people are accessing your website, what pages most people gravitate to, and how much time they spend on each page.  I thought it was really cool that I could see where in the world people were accessing my website. I tried an experiment with a few members of my family who are in different states. I asked them to go onto my website while I was on Google Analytics so I could see if the data was accurate and timely. I learned that you could see little dots on a map of the world that represent someone in a specific state viewing my website.  I also learned that you could see on Google Analytics what pages of your website people go to the most and how long they stay there. This is really helpful when...

Google Ads and Ad Groups

Image
This week I learned so much about Google Ads and the importance of having multiple ad groups in one campaign.  When creating your google ads, you need to first have a good hook, something that grabs the attention of the viewer. Your ad should be short and sweet and to the point. If it is too long and unclear, the viewer will lose interest before clicking on your ad and visiting your website. Don't drive them away. Your ad should not be deceitful. Your ad should convey your type of business and what you are hoping to accomplish, don't just try and get people to visit your website by telling lies or giving half-truths. Your ad should also have a call to action, something you want the viewer to do. Some examples of this could be "buy now" or "click here to learn more".  I also learned that it is important to have multiple ad groups in one campaign because it allows you to focus your keywords on different, more specific areas of your website. One example of th...

Things to Know About Keywords

Image
This week I learned a lot about keywords and how to use them to your advantage when starting on google ads. Let's get into it. The first thing I learned about keywords in relation to starting a google ads campaign is that you shouldn't use any insider buzz words. This means you shouldn't use any words that only professionals in that field would know to search. Instead, you should use common day-to-day words related to your field. You should also use words that people in your target market use. Another thing I learned about keywords is that you should make sure they convey the right intent. The right intent could be transactional, informational, commercial, or navigational. I also learned that you shouldn't make your keywords too broad or too specific. If they are too broad, your click through rate score will suffer and you risk getting the wrong target audience on your website. If they are too specific, you won't get as many searches or clicks.  I hope the lessons...

Legal Stipulations

Image
This week I learned lots about the legal requirements behind starting a business. There are many fees, forms, and requirements that you need to be aware of before starting your business and they are different for each of the different business models. Because the business model I have chosen is affiliate marketing, I will only be discussing the legal requirements I have to be aware of for my business.  Some terms I learned about this week are LLC's, Sole proprietorship, and nexus.  An LLC stands for a limited liability company which is a business structure which protects the owner's money, assets, etc. from any lawsuits and unfair legal action. This makes it one of the safest business structures.  A sole proprietorship is another type of business structure where only one person owns it and there is no real legal distinction between that person's money and assets and the business's money and assets. This makes it a little risky. Nexus is when you are living in one s...
