What I Learned About SEO
This week I learned about something called SEO which stands for search engine optimization. SEO is the process of improving a website's visibility in organic search results on search engines.
You might be thinking "how is this any different from search ads?" Search ads and SEO are similar, but I learned some key differences. Some good things about SEO are that it is free and it puts your ads to the top of the page. Some downsides of SEO are that it is hard to compete against because so many people use it, and it takes a long time to get set up. One common thing between SEO and search ads is that they are both keyword based.
Another thing I learned this week was that Google and other search engines use a database called the index to make sure that when someone searches something, a relevant and timely website comes up first. So how do you make sure your website is the one that comes up first? One thing you could work on is building your information architecture. Good site architecture means linking to other sites and also having other businesses link to your website. This photo diagram below was really helpful to me when I was learning this.
Another thing I learned that is helpful is to follow these four SEO steps:
1. Audit- how are they ranking?
2. Choose keyword phrases per page, not for the whole website
3. On-page SEO (how many times that keyword appears on page)
4. Off-page SEO (backlinks to increase credibility and be on the top of the page)
I hope the lessons I learned are as helpful to you as they were to me!
