Project Prep

 

This week was focused mainly on preparation for our upcoming projects which are choosing a business idea for the rest of the semester and actually creating our websites. 

When choosing a business idea it is best to start off by weighing your time, passion, budget, and goals. It is important to also try and get an idea of how successful this business idea will be. It was helpful for me to go to google keyword planner and type in different keywords related to my top business ideas. This helped me to get an idea of how often people search for those things and how profitable this business idea could be. Everything else related to your business generally builds off how successful it looks like it will be so make sure you pick a good idea. 

When looking at our second project, building our website, it was important to consider different site builders and hosting. I chose to build my website on WordPress and have Ionos as my host. I then had to decide how I wanted to format my website. I decided that I needed a home page, a contact page, and an about me page. For my blog posts, I wanted to have my most recent posts shown at the top for convenience. I also wanted each post to have pictures and links to the related product. I learned that pictures help people to see the actual product and it generally results in more sales than just having a link to products.

Google Ads and Ad Groups

  This week I learned so much about Google Ads and the importance of having multiple ad groups in one campaign.  When creating your google ads, you need to first have a good hook, something that grabs the attention of the viewer. Your ad should be short and sweet and to the point. If it is too long and unclear, the viewer will lose interest before clicking on your ad and visiting your website. Don't drive them away. Your ad should not be deceitful. Your ad should convey your type of business and what you are hoping to accomplish, don't just try and get people to visit your website by telling lies or giving half-truths. Your ad should also have a call to action, something you want the viewer to do. What I Learned About SEO

  This week I learned about something called SEO which stands for search engine optimization. SEO is   the process of improving a website's visibility in organic search results on search engines .  You might be thinking "how is this any different from search ads?" Search ads and SEO are similar, but I learned some key differences. Some good things about SEO are that it is free and it puts your ads to the top of the page. Some downsides of SEO are that it is hard to compete against because so many people use it, and it takes a long time to get set up. One common thing between SEO and search ads is that they are both keyword based.  Another thing I learned this week was that Google and other search engines use a database called the index to make sure that when someone searches something, a relevant and timely website comes up first.
